If you have not noticed electric cars in the news, then listen up. Electric cars are becoming the best alternative to gas powered vehicles. Recently president Bush test drove several electric cars, including Phoenix Moros, SUT (Sports Utility Truck) The all electric truck is a full size, highway capable, and can go about 130 miles on a single charge. Other electric car companies are offering other options. Hybrid Technology Inc. is selling an all electric PT Crusier, that sports highway driving up to 80 MPH with an impressive range of 120 miles on a single charge. The Electric PT Cruiser is on sale today and can be purchased for about $40,000. Other electric car companies are producing Neborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV's), that tipically travel 25 MPH and usually have a range of about 30 miles. Currently there are several companies that are produing NEV's including, ZENN Motors, Miles Automotive, and ZAP. Out of those three ZAP is the only company that produces an NEV that is fully designed to keep up with brisk city traffic, up to 40 MPH. The Xebra, ZAP's all electric three wheel vehicle, is classified as a motor cycle, and ZAP markets it as the safest motorcycle because it is fully enclosed. The Xebra cost around $10,000 and can travel 40 miles on a single charge, if you travel at low speeds. If you travel faster, the vehicle is limited to a 25 mile range, but can charge at any 110V outlet and can recieve a 50% charge in 1 hour and a full charge in 6-8 hours.
